simple automobile care

recently there was an exchange by somebody offering help to someone else in terms of simple things they could do to make their car run better or more efficiently. I can't find that blog now but I wanted to add something about the air filter if there's anybody doing simple stuff in these days of high priced fuel.

1st try to find where your car's air filter is located, maybe ax the boyfriend or somebody at the place where you buy gas, etc. Sometimes the filter is located in an easily accessible place, but it may require simple tools to reach it, eg screwdriver,pliers, etc. My japanese--- you pop three (2?) wire clips out of the way, & remove a thmbscrew. usually air filters are sort of a woolly fabic material, sometimes pleated paper & not too expensive, 3-5 bux. replacing one of these is sometimes surprisingly rewarding. if you bought the car used,the previous owner maybe didn't believe in mere maintenance, or too busy, etc. replacing an air filt may surprise you how much better the car runs which means you're saving gas. on the smaller engines, the air is very important. If you open the airfilter holder & can't buy a new one, as a temporary measure, bang it top down on maybe a piece of newspaper which will dislodge any particles & help a little.
